Sitting against a forested hillside, Cedar cottage could have been plucked right out of a fairytale
Explore this stay

Follow a winding country road through Banghoek Private Nature Reserve and you’ll come upon a hidden refuge, a quiet cottage sheltered by mountains and forest: Cedar

‍

The Lowdown

Sitting against a forested hillside, Cedar cottage could have been plucked right out of a fairytale. Here, everything has been thought of, from reading material and board games to Bluetooth speakers and good WiFi (but we recommend turning off your phone for the full peace-and-quiet experience). Guests are spoiled for choice when it comes to enjoying the outdoors, from the deck and dining area to the natural pool, hammock, and sun loungers in the garden—there’s a quiet spot for everyone

‍

Sleeping Arrangements

As with the rest of the home, bedrooms at Cedar are geared towards slow, intentional living—with an emphasis on relaxing in a natural, neutral environment. We’re talking about big, comfy beds, soft linens, and warm, light-filled spaces. Cedar can welcome up to six guests with three bedrooms: two on the lower level (one en-suite bedroom and one bedroom with a separate bathroom), while the second en-suite loft bedroom also features a daybed

‍

What To Expect

Cedar is made up of an open-plan kitchen, lounge and dining area that opens up fully to the spacious deck, offering the best of indoor-outdoor living. A fireplace inside keeps things cosy in winter, while the covered braai (barbecue) on the deck ensures alfresco cooking is possible any time of the year. The kitchen is fully-equipped and all basic pantry staples are supplied. Fresh fruit from the farm is always in good supply, too

‍

The Art House Difference

The reserve boasts exceptional biodiversity, with rugged landscapes and crystal-clear streams, making it the perfect setting for birdwatching, mountain biking, and trail walking. Eco-travel is at the heart of Cedar. Sensitive to the surrounding ecosystem, the home runs various sustainable practices to maintain its minimal carbon footprint, including the use of renewable energy from solar panels and borehole water from underground reserves. The pool is filled with dam water, the overflow being used to replenish the water table and support the 2000 indigenous trees planted by the owners
