Skypad floats quietly above the historic Bo-Kaap — a minimalist sanctuary shaped by light, concrete and the spirit of calm. The penthouse draws from the serene restraint of Tadao Ando: poured-concrete walls, deliberate voids, and rhythmic space that frames the city and Table Mountain beyond.

Inside, the apartment becomes a living gallery of contemporary African art and European design. Sculptural works by Wim Botha, Edoardo Villa and Claudette Schreuders, and artwork by Jan-Henri Booyens, Jacob van Schalkwyk, Conrad Botes, and Zander Blom share the open-plan living spaces with midcentury pieces such as Arne Norell’s ‘Ari’ lounge chairs, Børge Mogensen’s ‘Spanish’ chairs, and Hans J Wegner’s ‘Sawbuck’ chair, all lending texture and narrative to the monolithic architecture. As a collector and dealer of tribal art, the homeowner’s private collection of carved wooden African masks and figures can be found throughout. Part artwork, part artefact, they impart a deep sense of spiritualism and history. Oak joinery, soft textiles and built-in seating complete the interiors, offering quiet places to pause and relax.

Floor-to-ceiling glass doors fold away, merging interiors with a terrace and private plunge pool that seem to hover above the city’s vibrant rooftops. At night, Cape Town’s skyline becomes a living artwork of its own.

Upstairs, two en-suite bedrooms are connected by a steel-grate walkway, giving the impression of private spaces suspended above the open-plan living below. Each bedroom opens on one side to the pool terrace and, on the other, frames Table Mountain — tranquil retreats balanced between sky and stone.
